Shropshire Road Victim Named

Police have named the car driver who died yesterday in a collision with an ambulance on the A49 at Preston Brockhurst, near Shrewsbury.

Mr Kieran Nathan Moore-Hughes, aged 25, of Heath Farm, Shrewsbury, was formally identified this afternoon.

His blue Volkswagen Golf GTI was involved in a collision with an ambulance belonging to West Midlands Ambulance Service.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem was held this morning and an inquest is due to be opened by the Shropshire coroner Mr John Ellery early next week.

A young woman who was a front seat passenger in the Golf was airlifted to hospital in Stoke with multiple injuries.  She remains in a critical but stable condition.

Three women in the ambulance were also taken to hospital.  The driver was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth with serious injuries and a paramedic and a patient were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury with less serious injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and have renewed their appeal for witnesses to contact Shrewsbury police station by calling 0300 333 3000.
