South Shropshire Motorists Urged To Secure Their Vehicles
Police in south Shropshire are urging motorists to make sure their doors are locked following a spate of thefts from vehicles left insecure.
The warning has been issued by Police Constable Lisa Cox, based at Ludlow police station.
She said: "I want to remind people of the importance of making sure their vehicle doors are locked and windows shut when parked - even if they only leave the vehicle unattended for a few minutes.
"There has been a recent spate of incidents across the district, mainly in the Bishop's Castle area. People have learnt to their cost it's bad practice to leave vehicles insecure, even in rural areas."
PC Cox said: "So far, there have been offences in Lydbury North, Chirbury, Marton, Seifton and Diddlebury. Property stolen has ranged from mobile phones, sat-nav systems, golf clubs to small change and cans of beer.
"In every case, the cars have been left insecure by their owners and the offenders have simply taken what they can find in the vehicles."
She added it was important not only to lock vehicles but also to remove items of value, or at least lock them in the boot out of sight.
