Theft From Waste Site Near Ledbury

Police in Herefordshire are investigating following a theft from a waste disposal business on the outskirts of Ledbury.

The incident occurred at the business on Little Marcle Road sometime between 6pm on Tuesday 13 December and 7am on Wednesday 14 December.

Sometime overnight it appears that thieves broke into the yard by cutting two holes in the large steel fence that surrounds the premises.

Once inside the yard the thieves approached storage bins and proceeded to steal almost 50 car batteries from inside them. The thieves then left the yard - by exiting through the holes they had cut in the fence - and made off with the batteries.

A police spokesman said:

"The value of the stolen batteries is thought to be around £400 while at least £200 of damage was caused to the metal fence as a result of this break-in.

"This is the latest in a number of thefts at this business premises and we are now studying CCTV of this incident to see whether it offers any clues as to the identity of the offenders.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour on Little Marcle Road earlier this week, or any unusual vehicles in the area over the last few days.

"Anyone who believes they may have information about this theft is asked to call police in Hereford on 0300 333 3000. Alternatively, please remember that information can also be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
