Two Arrested After Copper Stolen From Electricity Substations

Police investigating the theft of copper cabling, switchgear and locks from a dozen electricity substations in Kidderminster and Stourport have arrested two men.

The men were arrested on suspicion of theft after a vehicle they were in was stopped by police on the M5 near Junction 3 in the West Midlands at about 3.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 27 July). Officers have seized a number of locks believed to have been stolen from the substations.

Police yesterday (Tuesday) received reports of thefts of copper cable from nine substations in Kidderminster. They were mainly in the Offmore and Comberton areas of the town and are thought to have been carried out on Saturday, July 24. Three reports of thefts from substations at Stourport were received on Wednesday last week (July 21).

The men were today (Wednesday 28 July) released on police bail until August 19 pending further inquiries.
