Two Arrested Following Telford Car Key Burglary
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary in Telford following a police pursuit of a suspected stolen car.
The black Mercedes SLK had been reported stolen with its keys from an address in Sparrowhawk Way, Apley at about 8am on Wednesday 11 July 2012.
It was sighted in the Bridgnorth area later that night and officers patrol caught up with the vehicle at about 10pm.
The driver of the car failed to stop for police and a pursuit took place, which resulted in a ‘stinger' device being deployed, which eventually brought the vehicle to a stop in the Much Wenlock area a short time later.
A 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old man from the car, both from the Telford area, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and taken into custody at Shrewsbury Police Station, where they are due to be interviewed.
The Mercedes, which has a 2011 ‘61' registration, was recovered by police for forensic examination.
Detective Sergeant Matt Gibbons, who is leading the investigation, has appealed for anyone who might have seen the Mercedes during that day to get in touch.
"The Mercedes was reported stolen at about 8am that morning and is likely to have gone sometime overnight, so if anyone saw suspicious persons or vehicles in the Sparrowhawk Way area, please contact police on 101," he said.
"Several hours passed between then and when officers sighted the car at Bridgnorth. I am keen to find out where the Mercedes may have been during that time, so if anyone has seen this distinctive black sports car during Wednesday 11 July, please can they also get in touch."
Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where a reward is sometimes offered.
