Two Arrests At Shrewsbury Car Dealership

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of trying to steal catalytic converters after police were called to a second hand car dealership near Shrewsbury.

Police were called to Ashley Jordan Cars on the old A5 at Uckington at about 11.40pm on Wednesday 11 July 2012, after staff monitoring CCTV spotted three people acting suspiciously on the forecourt.

On the arrival of officers, all three men ran from the scene, with one detained quickly and a second found a short time later in a nearby field.

Both were arrested on suspicion of theft and were taken into custody at Shrewsbury Police Station, where they are due to be interviewed.

Enquiries are still underway to identify and trace a third man reported to have been at the scene but who was not found. Damage was caused to one of the cars.

Inspector John Payton, from Shrewsbury Police Station, said heightened security measures at the dealership had resulted in police being able to attend while the alleged crime was in progress.

"The site has a very effective security system, including good CCTV, and this meant staff were able to report the incident as it happened to police," he said.

"Officers were at the scene within a few minutes and two people were arrested on suspicion of theft."

Anyone who might have seen suspicious activity in the area during that night or who has information about the third man involved is asked to contact police on 101.

Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
