Witnesses Sought After Redditch Street Assault

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage girl was attacked in the street in Redditch.

The 17-year-old victim, who was wearing grey trousers and a black coat, was walking along Wirehill Drive at around 5.30pm on Monday, 14 November, when it happened.

She was approached by an Asian male who grabbed her by the arm and then slapped her around the face several times. He was disturbed when a woman came out of a house nearby, which allowed the victim to break free and run off.

The attacker, of similar age to the girl and wearing black clothing, walked off in the  opposite direction towards the shops off Barlich Way.

The girl was left with bruising to an arm and reddening to her face but did not require medical treatment.

PC Emily Silvester said: "The person who did this is known to the victim, who is vulnerable, and while we are obviously following up on that we do need witnesses to come forward. She was shouting out during the attack and there were cars passing and other people around who would have seen or heard what was going on. I would ask them to contact us as a matter of urgency."

PC Silvester can be contacted at Redditch Police Station on 0300 333 3000, quoting incident reference 239-N-161111, or information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
