Woman Dies In Collision At Cookley, Near Kidderminster
Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a woman died in a road collision in Cookley this morning (Tuesday, 18 September).
It happened on the A449 Wolverhampton to Cookley Road at about 5.45am and involved a blue Renault Clio and a white Peugeot van.
The Clio was travelling towards Kidderminster when it lost control and overturned. There was then a collision involving the overturned car and the van which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The female driver of the Clio, who is in her 20s, was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics.
She has not yet been named. An inquest will be opened in due course.
The driver of the van was uninjured.
The A449 is currently closed between the junctions of Caunsall Road and Castle Road. Diversions are in place and it is hoped the road should reopen by midday.
PC Glenn Jones of West Mercia Police said: "A woman has tragically lost her life today and our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.
"An investigation has been launched into how and why this collision occurred, and we are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact us on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 56-S-180912."
