Wythall Police Station Reopens
Wythall Police Station was formally re-opened yesterday (Wednesday 2 December) after being closed for several months for refurbishment.
Following a short introduction by North Worcestershire’s Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent David Spencer, the station was officially declared open by Max Field MBE, chairman for Wythall PACT, and Andy Humphries, chairman for Alvechurch PACT, who together unveiled a commemorative plaque in the front counter area of the refurbished station.
Sheila Blagg, Chair of West Mercia Police Authority, and Chief Inspector Angela Burnet, who heads local policing in North Worcestershire, also attended the official reopening ceremony along with other invited guests, many of them key players in the PACT (Partners and Communities Together) process in the local community. The full local policing team for Alvechurch and Wythall also attended.
The police station has been operational for several weeks but was formally reopened following four months of refurbishments to modernise the station and make facilities compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
Alterations include a new front car park with parking space for people with disabilities, a ramp, a new front door and illuminated signage.
A new low front counter with a hearing loop, a consultation room and toilet facilities have also been provided at the police station, offering visitors easier wheelchair access and helping people with impaired hearing and other disabilities.
Local Policing Sergeant Ben Hembry said: “Wythall station has been operational for several weeks now and the feedback we’ve had on the improvements has all been very positive. The station now has a modern feel making it a better working environment for the policing team but most importantly, it is DDA compliant, making the facilities fully accessible for everyone.
“We would like to pass on our thanks to the PACT chairs for their contribution to the official reopening, and of course to everyone involved in the refurbishment.
“The improved public areas will make a big difference and will mean we can start holding our local policing surgeries at the station. These will be advertised locally and we hope local residents will look out for these dates and come along if they can.”
The first police surgery at Wythall station is scheduled for 10am on Wednesday 6 January.
