Policing Matters Meetings

Working with the Police Authority

West Mercia Police Authority is responsible for overseeing and securing the maintenance of an efficient and effective police service for the people of West Mercia. The authority is a separate organisation from the force, with 17 members (nine Councillors, three Lay Justices and five Independents) from across the five divisions that make up West Mercia.

The Police Authority can't influence with day-to-day operational decisions. It is their role to consult upon and reflect public opinion on policing issues and, in discussion with the Chief Constable, influence key policing issues and oversee complaints.

To do this, they hold a series of 'Policing Matters', or in Telford & Wrekin 'Your Community Matters', consultation events. Unlike PACT (Partners and Communities Together) events which enable residents to meet and discuss localised issues and priorities with their local policing team, these meetings provide the opportunity for members of the public to meet senior police officers, Police Authority members and representatives from partner agencies to provide feedback on policing in the area.
