Feature Focus

Student Officers

Please note that West Mercia Police is not currently recruiting new student officers.  It is anticipated that we will not open our recruitment lines during 2012.

In the meantime, if you would like more information on the recruitment process please see the link below or visit www.PoliceCouldYou.co.uk.

You may also like to consider volunteering for the Special Constabulary .  This will give you valuable experience and an understanding of the role of a police officer.

Eligibility

To join as a police officer, you must be aged between 18 and 55 years of age at the time of applying.

We hold recruitment events for people interested in applying to become student officers.  Each event lasts for two hours and includes information on West Mercia Police, the role of a police officer, the recruitment process and the training programme.  Please note that application packs are only issued to people who attend one of these events.

Details of the next event will be posted on this page when we re-open recruitment for student officers.

Anyone who has been unsuccessful within our recruitment process or that of another force in England and Wales is not eligible to re-apply for six months from the date of the unsuccessful application.

Assessment and Selection

Everyone who applies to join West Mercia Police is subject to a rigorous assessment and selection process. This is essential to ensure we select the right people with the right qualities.

Medical and Fitness Requirements

All recruits must be in good health and be fit - both physically and mentally - to undertake a career as a police officer.

Positive Action

We are keen for West Mercia Police to represent the community it serves by creating a diverse workforce. Our Human Resources team offers a range of services to support those from under-represented groups through the recruitment, retention and progression processes.
