Bonfire Night Safety

Bonfire Image

Celebrating Bonfire night is a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to spend an evening together. West Mercia Police along with all the other emergency services want you to enjoy this time in safety.

The safest way is to go to an organized display and follow the safety precautions set out by the organizers.

However if you decide to have a party of your own please follow the Fireworks Code.:-

  • Only buy fireworks marked BS 7114.
  • Don't drink alcohol if setting off fireworks.
  • Keep fireworks in a closed box.
  • Follow the instructions on each firework.
  • Light them at arms length, using a taper.
  • Stand well back.
  • Never go near a firework that has been lit. Even if it hasn't gone off it could still explode.
  • Never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them.
  • Always supervise children around fireworks.
  • Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves.
  • Never give sparklers to a child under five.
  • Keep pets indoors.
  • Don't set off noisy fireworks late at night and never after 11pm.

In addition:-.

  • Always follow the instructions on the fireworks box.
  • Children need to be supervised at all times.
  • Fireworks should be handled only by a responsible ADULT.
  • Keep well away from  bonfires.
