Overseas visitors registration - Registering for the first time

If you need to register with the police for the first time you will need to complete an online application form within 7 days of your arrival in the UK or, if you are waiting for your Biometric Residence Permit, within 17 days of arrival in the UK. You will then need to attend your nearest police station to collect your Police Registration Certificate.

In order to register your details with the police you will first need to create an online account and then submit an application form and digital photograph (in a jpeg format). Once you have submitted your form you can book an appointment at a police station in order to collect your Police Registration Certificate.

When you attend your appointment you will need to bring with you:

  • Passport (also previous one if recently renewed)
  • Biometric Residence Permit card (BRP)
  • ID card (for students)
  • Proof of your address:
    -      For students this will be either a paper copy of your Certificate of Attendance Status (CAS)/ Student Status letter OR an electronic copy of the Certificate saved onto your smartphone
    -      For employees/ non-employees - this will be a utility bill, mortgage or rental agreement within the last 3 months
  • £34 (please bring the correct amount in cash upon registration at the police station front counter)
