Police community support officers (PCSO)

PCSOs Liston and Machin

As a police community support officer (PCSO) with West Mercia Police, your job will be to protect people from harm.

Although exciting, intense and varied, being a PCSO is not a 9 to 5 job. It is a high visibility role by patrolling out in the community. By taking the time to talk to people and getting to know the local area,  PCSOs are the 'eyes and ears' of the community.

As a PCSO, you are trained to calm heated situations and defuse hostility, but are not expected to deal with violent incidents, including arrests.

In addition to being on patrol, day-to-day activities include dealing with minor offences, offering early interventions to deter people from committing offences, providing crime prevention advice, gathering evidence through observation, and conducting house-house enquiries.

The rewards are significant, you will be supported throughout your career and there are opportunities for promotion and development to specialist roles.
