Delivering results in Malvern

Special Sergeant Nathan Pawley outlines how the 20 Special Constables in Malvern have been supporting their Safer Neighbourhood Team and Response Team colleagues, delivering results and protecting people from harm.

Sergeant Pawley said: "Special Constables recently assisted a drugs warrant in Worcester and seized crack cocaine to the value of £400. On another occasion two Special Constables had just started working with the Response Team and within 18 minutes they had arrested someone in breach of their bail conditions and they were recalled to prison".

Important to any police officer is having professional curiosity and this was true when Special Constable Samuel Long was on patrol, according to Sergeant Pawley: "Special Constable Long came across an expensive vehicle in the course of his duties but something didn't look right.. He had a hunch and following enquiries it was discovered the vehicle had false plates and had been stolen".

Sergeant Pawley said: "We put out a double crew of Special Constables every weekend in Malvern and work on the tasks assigned by the Safer Neighbourhood Team and support incidents identified by the Response Team. The Special Constables cover a wide and busy area, dealing with a range of crime. And looking ahead, officers will be supporting community events, such as West Fest music festival, which takes place on 1 July 2017".

"Special Constables will provide a police presence from 11:00am to 11:00pm at the family-orientated event, which attracts more than 3,000 people every year. The organisers value our presence as it assists with the smooth-running of the festival, provides reassurance to those attending and helps us engage with local people."
