Police incident at Worcester Foregate Street Railway Station resolved safely

Superintendent Kevin Purcell said: "We responded to a call at 15.47 today (Monday 12 June) from a member of the public concerned about a man on a train who they thought may have been carrying a firearm.

"Officers, including armed officers, quickly attended Worcester Foregate Street Railway Station, and although a 22 year-old man has been detained, no weapon has been found and it is believed the call, made with good intent by the member of public, was a false alarm. We do encourage the public to report any concerns and we are grateful to the caller that we were able to ensure there were no issues.

"We understand the brief closure of the railway station may have caused delays to people on their way home today and we appreciate your patience and understanding whilst we responded to ensure there was no risk to the public."
