Speed enforcement in Bridgnorth

Acting Special Sergeant David Cole organised speed enforcement operations on 9 and 16 June 2017 to support the Bridgnorth Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), following concerns that had been raised about the issue by local residents and local councils in Bridgnorth and surrounding towns and villages.

The speed enforcement operations were carried out by Special Constables; no partner agencies were involved although some statistics were referred back to the Safer Neighbourhood Team sergeant at the end of the month.

On 9 June, Special Constables Mark Fletcher and Jasmin Donnelly, with Police Community Support Officer Jacqui Fletcher, conducted speed enforcement activities in Albrighton and Shifnal.  A number of vehicles were stopped and most were given words of advice. One van driver failed to stop for the officers and was reported for this offence.

On 16 June, Special Constables Ross Parker and Joanna Slater, with Acting Special Sergeant Cole, conducted speed enforcement activities in Much Wenlock. Again a number of vehicles were stopped and the drivers provided with words of advice. One traffic offence report was issued to a driver doing 38 miles per hour in a 30 mph limit area.

Acting Special Sergeant Cole said: "The events were well received by local residents that spoke to us on the evenings and (most!) of the drivers stopped were understanding of what we were doing. The Safer Neighbourhood Team at Bridgnorth were grateful for the assistance and it was a great learning opportunity for some of the newer Special Constables based at Bridgnorth Police Station.  I am hoping that we can conduct more of these events over the summer period".
