Shifnal Carnival (23 and 24 June 2017)

The Special Constabulary in Shropshire support the Shifnal Carnival every year, boosting police numbers at a time when there is a large influx in to the town as a result of the carnival and funfair.

Special Constables assisted with the night time economy, where there are usually issues with anti-social behaviour and disorder.

Police Constable Picken organised the police involvement in the event and Acting Special Sergeant Cole organised the Special Constabulary's support at the event.

Acting Special Sergeant Cole said: "We had overwhelming support from numerous Special Constables from Shropshire and Telford and Special Chief Officer Nick Marlow also attended on the evening of 24 June".

"The event was policed by Special Constables and officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team up until around 23:00/00:00 hours. The Special Constables conducted high visibility foot patrols in the town centre and the surrounding areas. We were actually very lucky on both nights in that there were no significant incidents that arose although I expect this was partially due to the high number of officers we had patrolling too".
