Special Constables play their part in jazz festival success

West Mercia Police Special Constables assisted regular colleagues from the Upton Safer Neighbourhood Team in providing high visibility patrols and preventing disorder at the 32nd annual Upton Jazz Festival, which took place in Upton upon Severn from 22-25 June 2017.

The Special Constabulary have been supporting the festival for a number of years and organisers estimate that 2,000 people were on the main festival field at one point during the four-day event.

Over the course of the festival, Special Constables also provided reassurance to local residents, carried out community engagement activities, and liaised with local pubs, door staff and the event organisers.

The event also enabled Special Constables to support the West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police drink drive campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the consequences of driving after drinking and the effects it can have.

Special Sergeant Jon McCarthy said: "Overall, the event was a complete success. There were no reports of any disorder and members of the public commented on how it was great to see a police presence in their local town".
