Appeal for witnesses following fatal collision on M42 motorway

Officers from West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses or information following a fatal collision that happened in the late hours of yesterday (Sunday, 9 July).

It is reported to have taken place around 8:55pm, when 4 vehicles have been in collision on the M42 southbound between junctions 2 and 1 at Bromsgrove.

The incident involved a HGV, Renault Kadjar and 2 Volkswagen Golfs.

A driver of one of the Volkswagen Golf's, received fatal injuries and has yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the other Volkswagen Golf, a man in his 20s, received minor injuries to his foot.

The driver of the Renault Kadjar, a man in his 70s, received a broken arm and along with cuts abrasions. His passenger a woman also in her 70s received a broken arm, leg and pelvis. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigations are still on-going.

Investigating officer, PS Rob Gilligan of Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG), said: "We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the circumstances leading up to the incident.

"Anyone with information is asked to call West Midlands Police on the non-emergency telephone number 101 quoting 2832 of 9 July 2017."

* A 52-year-old man from Exmouth, Devon was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.
