Speed enforcement programme

Reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads remains our key priority. Excessive and inappropriate speed continue to cause collisions which have resulted in death and injury.

Through a structured speed enforcement programme, we aim to deter this behaviour and improve the safety of the roads for all those who use them.

In seeking enforcement locations, the operational team is committed to finding low-cost options whenever and wherever possible, reducing the need for dedicated hard standings. Gateways and grass verges will be used when and where possible. All sites are risk assessed for suitability and by the enforcement officer prior to and during enforcement.

With teams based across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, Warwickshire and Worcestershire, enforcement activity is carried out within the following key areas:

  • Casualty reduction programme

Casualty reduction speed enforcement sites are set up in areas where there is a history of speed-related road traffic collisions and casualties.

  • Community concern programme

The Community Concern Programme allows the Safer Roads Partnership to respond to concerns raised by local residents and community groups about speeding traffic in their local area. Community Concern speed enforcement sites aim to reduce speeding traffic and improve the quality of life for local communities, rather than solely focusing on areas where there is a history of collisions and casualties.

  • Community speed watch

One of the most recent developments within the Safer Roads Partnership's enforcement strategy is the introduction of the Community Speed Watch (CSW) scheme within Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
