New speed enforcement site launched in response to local concern - Colliers Way, Telford - 11 February 2015

The Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia is launching a new mobile speed enforcement site on Colliers Way in Telford in direct response to concerns raised by local residents about the speed of vehicles.

The new site launches next week (w/c 16th February 2015) and forms part of the Safer Roads Partnership's Community Concern programme, which responds to community requests for speed enforcement.

Speed enforcement activity will take place on Colliers Way and data collected in the area highlighted a significant speeding problem with 15% of vehicles travelling above 36.9mph in the 30mph limit.

Vicki Bristow, Communications Manager at the Safer Roads Partnership said "We are launching this new community concern site on Colliers Way to address the high level of concern present from local residents. Data collected has highlighted that a percentage of vehicles are travelling well above the 30mph speed limit and residents are understandably concerned.

"We hope that the presence of a speed camera will encourage drivers to change their behaviour and drive at a lower, safer speed. This will help to improve the quality of life for people living along Colliers Way, reduce the risk of harm, and improve the safety of the roads for all those who use them."

Speed data will be collected while the sites are in operation to assess the impact upon traffic speed and driver behaviour.
