Murder investigation continues following stabbing on Commercial Street, Hereford

A man assaulted at midday yesterday (29 January) on Hereford's Commercial Street has died in hospital.

The murder investigation continues today and police have confirmed that they do not believe there is any wider threat to the public. The area around Commercial Street where the incident took place is still partly closed while police investigate the scene.

The man, who has not been formally named by police yet, died at 8.25pm last night. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Superintendent Sue Thomas, local policing lead for Herefordshire, said: "These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with the family and friends of the man at this time. I would strongly urge anyone with information to contact police."

"My thanks to the public and local businesses for their patience during the disruption in the city. We're working to remove the scene guards as soon as possible."

One of the men originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and the man and woman arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice have been released under investigation. The other man originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released with no further action to be taken.

One further man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
