What is a police support volunteer?

Being a police support volunteer means contributing some of your time and skills to help Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police improve the quality of the service they offer to their communities.

Police support volunteer roles assist and enhance the normal day-to-day work undertaken by police officers and police staff.

Opportunities vary from one location to another, depending on local needs. However, typical roles include:

  • organising community forum or PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meetings
  • assisting Safer Neighbourhood Policing Teams to develop relationships with their communities
  • updating websites
  • updating members of the public on the progress of police investigations
  • undertaking community surveys
  • delivering flyers and newsletters
  • general administration
  • assisting with local events
  • dealing with telephone enquiries
  • helping to deal with found, lost or stolen property
  • offering crime prevention advice
  • helping with Watch Schemes, for example: Neighbourhood Watch, Horse Watch
  • assisting with the Police Cadets Programme
  • assisting as role players
