Body discovered on bridge over M42

The M42 was closed between junction two and three this morning (Thursday 5 April) after a man's body was found on a bridge over the road.

Officers received several reports of the discovery at around 6.35am.

The man, who is believed to be in his 80s, was declared dead at the scene.

The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

The man's next of kin has been informed and we are awaiting formal identification.

Inspector Gareth Keyte said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this time.

"While we're not treating the death as suspicious we will be working to help establish how the man died. We're keen to speak to anyone who saw him in the moments that led up to his death or has any other information about him that could help.

"I'd like to thank the public for their patience while emergency services responded to the incident earlier."

Anyone with information can call 101 and quote incident 67s of 5 April 2018.

The M42 is now fully open.
