Redditch police increase patrol numbers during the World Cup

Redditch's Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs) want to reassure the community that we will continue to have increased patrols in operation during the remaining World Cup matches.

An increase in police patrol numbers will continue to be seen and additionally for all future matches there will be a dedicated football van within the area. The extra resources have been put in place following a rise in football related disturbances during the tournament throughout Worcestershire County.

The increased patrols in Redditch is part of a force wide initiative to tackling any violence or disorders during the tournament.

We want all football fans to enjoy the World Cup safely and would also like to take this opportunity to remind proprietors of local licensed premises to serve fans responsibly.

Landlords are encouraged to remind their staff about when to stop serving individuals responsibly and when to tell their customers 'enough is enough'.

SNT inspector Mark Chappell said: "We want the community to come together and enjoy the football, but after England's qualifying rounds we did see an increase in football related incidents within Redditch and those involved spoil the enjoyment for the wider community by engaging in such activity. I want to remind people that we will be taking a robust and positive approach to those individuals who think they can use the tournament as an excuse to commit crime and create disorder, causing a nuisance to the wider public.

SNT Inspector Chappell continued: "I would like to reassure the community of Redditch that our increased patrols will be dispersed across the area during the upcoming matches and the police football van will be travelling around the area, ready to respond to any incidents."

If you do see anything you are concerned with please report via 101 or anonymously via crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
