M5 now open

Earlier this morning (Saturday 3 November) police responded to a report of a collision on the M5.

The road is now fully open.


Police dealing with the collision on the M5 this morning are appealing for any witnesses to get in contact.

Between 1.45am and 2am a pedestrian on the carriageway was struck by on-coming traffic. The pedestrian, a man in his late 50s, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the incident.

Police are appealing for any motorists travelling north or south on the M5 near to Frankley Services to get in contact.

Inspector Russ Barker said: "The M5 is a central route for people travelling across the country and we're keen to speak to anyone who was on the stretch of the motorway between junction 3 and 4 near to Frankley Services early this morning."

The road remains closed while emergency services continue to deal with the incident.

For reasons yet to be established a pedestrian was on the carriageway. The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle causing the pedestrian to suffer fatal injuries.

The motorway is currently closed in both directions between J3 and J4 at Frankley Services to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

The bridge across Illey Lane is also closed.

Motorists are being directed through the services however there are traffic delays and motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

Diversions are in place.

It is anticipated the motorway will remain closed until later this morning.
