Man shot by police in Bromsgrove

A man has been treated in hospital after being shot by police in Bromsgrove

The incident happened at around 1.44am this morning (Sunday 4 November) in Birmingham Road. Armed police attended after police received a report of a man with a handgun in School Lane.

The man , believed to be aged 53, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he underwent surgery. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

No-one else was injured during the incident.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).

West Mercia Police Assistant Chief Constable Martin Evans said: "It is standard procedure that incidents of this nature are referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct and we will now work with them as they carry out their enquiries."
