Planned protest in Wellington

Police and partners are reassuring members of the public plans are in place to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum ahead of a planned protest in Wellington.

The pre-planned protest is due to take place on Saturday afternoon, with a counter protest also anticipated.

Officers will be on duty in and around Wellington town centre on the day to ensure disruption to the local community is kept to a minimum.

Superintendent Paul Moxley has recently taken over as the local policing commander for Telford and will be overseeing the policing operation on Saturday.

He said: "We're well equipped to deal with such events and have plans in place to make sure disruption is kept to an absolute minimum for people in Wellington. You may see extra officers in the town but people shouldn't be alarmed about this. They're primarily there to offer reassurance and speak to local people about any concerns they may have and I would urge people to stop and speak to them if they have any concerns."

Police will keep you updated throughout the day with regular Twitter updates on our account @WMerciaPolice.
