Nominations wanted for West Mercia Young Good Citizen 2019

We have launched the search for West Mercia's Young Good Citizens 2019.

It is an opportunity to recognise and publicise the great work done by many young people in our communities.

The event allows us to deliver a positive message about our youth to the wider public and strengthens the relationship between police and young people.

We want to hear about those aged 18 or under who have displayed community spirit and are making a real difference.

We are particularly keen to receive nominations concerning  young people who have overcome challenges in their own lives and have still been able to make a difference to others in their community.

We are also inviting nominations from schools, youth leaders, and members of the public.

All nominees meeting the criteria will receive a Young Good Citizen Certificate from their Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Ten of these along with their proposers will be invited to a final awards ceremony at police HQ in October 2019 hosted by Chief Officers and local High Sheriffs.

Speaking about the initiative Chief Inspector James Baker said: "The Young Good Citizen Award Scheme is run by West Mercia Police in partnership with the High Sheriffs of Shropshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

"It aims to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of young people in the community. Previous young good citizen achievements have included outstanding fund-raising activities and exemplary unselfishness in their attitude towards others.

"We want to celebrate the achievements of those aged 18 or under who have displayed great spirit and are making a real difference in their communities."
