Murder investigation launched after Droitwich man found dead

A murder investigation has begun following the discovery of a man's body at his home in Vines Lane, Droitwich, on Monday.

Desmond Wooding, who was 80-years-old, and lived alone, was found on Monday morning, when police were called. He had suffered stab wounds.

Desmond had last been seen alive early on Sunday evening, near to his house. He was well known in the neighbourhood, and in Droitwich town centre, where he was regularly seen on his mobility scooter.

We are appealing for the help of the public to identify a man who was seen walking his dog in the area last weekend - specifically around 11.30am last Saturday morning (22 June).

Officers believe this man may have information which could be vital to their enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Carl Moore said: "This is a tragic case, whereby an elderly gentleman has been killed in his own home. I would urge members of the public to think back to the weekend, what they were doing, and whether or not they saw or heard anything suspicious.

"We are also looking to speak to the man in the images and video footage, who we have not yet spoken to, and may be able to assist with our investigation."

Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Information can also be given online at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/22HQ19D62-PO1

Superintendent Damian Pettit, who leads the Droitwich area policing team said: "We recognise that this is a shocking incident for the local community, but incidents such as these are thankfuly rare, and our thoughts remain with Desmond's family and friends at this time.

"Anyone with any concerns can speak to a member of my team, as we remain in the area carrying out our enquiries. This investigation is being led by our Major Crime Investigation team, and I would like to reassure the community that finding out who is responsible for this crime is our upmost priority."

*NOTES TO EDITORS* - Superintendent Damian Pettit will available for interviews in Vines Lane, Droitwich at 4pm today (27 June). If you would like an interview please arrive no later than 3.45pm.
