West Mercia Police serves 1.19 million people across Worcestershire, Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire and Herefordshire.
The active promotion of equality of opportunity, inclusion and diversity is a fundamental enabler of our vision, values and priorities. It is intrinsic to our organisational culture, underpins our objectives and helps shape the way in which our services are designed and delivered.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has developed a Diversity, Equality & Inclusion Strategy and Toolkit. It focuses on leadership, our organisation, our communities and our partners. This strategy, along with our own internal and external consultation, assessment and analysis of equality issues, will continue to inform our Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Strategy and our Equality Objectives.
We serve both our communities and staff and work in partnership with a wide range of other statutory and voluntary sector organisations, including community and advocacy groups. In doing so, it is essential that we listen carefully to our diverse stakeholders, consulting on the potential impacts of our decision making or policies, particularly as they may affect different ‘protected characteristics’ and those from under-represented groups.
We have a number of channels through which we currently engage and consult, and we aim to widen and enrich these. Our local and strategic Independent Advisory Groups are a key route allowing us to engage with our communities.
