You’ve led in a team. Now lead in policing.
about this section
The West Mercia Police Direct Entry programme encourages people working at middle-management level across the private and public sectors to transfer those skills to a new career in policing.
The force is working in partnership with The College of Policing to deliver the Direct Entry Programme, which recruits people at the senior rank of Inspector. Applicants are recruited for their management skills in areas such as budgets, teams, resources, systems and cultural change, while also demonstrating their diversity of thought, life perspective and experience throughout the rigorous selection and assessment process.
These roles require dedicated, talented, flexible and proven leaders from outside policing, and do not require any previous policing experience.
The 24 month Inspector programme is fast paced, combining classroom-based and on-the-job training to equip recruits with the policing skills to complement their personal management experience and attributes. Rotational periods are spent in the roles of PC, Sergeant and Inspector during the training. In return, Inspectors receive a starting salary of £51,414 paid from day one of the training course.
Learn more about the role, training, support and benefits or this brochure for an in-depth overview of the candidate eligibility, application, selection and assessment processes. If you want to know more about what the role is really like, see what one of our Direct Entry Inspectors, Lewis Lincoln-Gordon, has to say about his experiences.
We will consider applications from people who meet the Direct Entry eligibility criteria. In addition, you will need to meet the local force criteria:
West Mercia Police values diversity and recognises that people with a variety of skills, attitudes and experiences, from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures, bring fresh ideas and perspectives to policing. To find out more, read about how our Positive Action programme supports applications from all under-represented groups, encompassing gender, people from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME), disability and sexual orientation, or email our Positive Action team.
