I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 13th December 2019. Please find below the response to your request:
I am writing to request information regarding your force’s process for the collection and testing of early evidence kits (EEKs) and/or sexual assault forensic evidence (SAFE) kits and/or rape kits in cases of sexual assault, specifically rape.
I am asking for the following information:
In the period from January 1st 2019 to April 1st 2019 how many early evidence kits (EEKs) and/or sexual assault forensic evidence (SAFE) kits and/or rape kits were administered to complainants of rape by your police force?
Of the rape kits administered by police between January 1st 2019 to April 1st 2019, how many were sent for forensic testing?
Are all the EEKs/SAFE kits/rape kits that are administered by your police force sent for forensic testing?
If not, how do you determine whether to send a kit for forensic testing?
Does your police force conduct forensic analysis of EEKs/SAFE kits/rape kits internally, or is forensic analysis conducted by a third party company?
If they are tested by third party, what is the name of the provider your force uses?

West Mercia Police do not information as to how many EEKs are used and/or sent for forensic testing etc.
Determining whether to send off the kit will be down to the Officer dealing and as a result of a forensic strategy.
Does your police force conduct forensic analysis of EEKs/SAFE kits/rape kits internally, or is forensic analysis conducted by a third party company?
