I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 21st October 2019. Please find below the response to your request:
The total number of crimes reported to the force within the following time periods - 1st Jan - 30th September 2019, Jan 1st - 31st Dec 2018 and Jan 1st - 31st Dec 2017
The total number of crimes that were “screened out”. Please provide the information for the following time periods - 1st Jan - 30th September 2019, Jan 1st - 31st Dec 2018 and Jan 1st - 31st Dec 2017
May you please provide a breakdown of the types of crimes “screened out” i.e. sexual assault, burglary. Please provide the information for the following time periods - 1st Jan - 30th September 2019, Jan 1st - 31st Dec 2018 and Jan 1st - 31st Dec 2017

Total recorded crimes:
2017 – (Jan – Dec) = 85975
2018 – (Jan – Dec) = 84205
2019 – (Jan – Sept) = 66111
Total number of crimes “screened out”:
2017 – (1st Jan – 3rd Oct) = 45180
Since the introduction of a new crime recording system on 4 October 2017, West Mercia Police do not “screen out” crimes. All crimes are investigated and once the investigation has concluded an outcome is applied to the crime report as per the Home Office User Guide.”
