FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 108576
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 18th August 2021. Please find below the response to your request:
How many people have been arrested and convicted, cautioned, or acquitted, under the Football (Offences) Act 1991 in the last three football seasons for the following offence:
Indecent or racialist chanting, which can be found under section 3 of the FOA 1991.
If for some reason this data is held not under football seasons but under calendar years, this is fine too. And if for some reason the data is not held on the result of the arrest (i.e conviction/caution/acquittal) then you can just provide the number of arrests.
Reply:-
There have been 0 arrests made under Section 3 of the Football Offences Act 1991 from the 2017/2018 football season to the 2020/2021 season.
There have been 3 arrests in the above date ranges under the whole of the Football Offences Act – all 3 were for “Go onto playing area at a football match” offence and:
2 were charged and convicted in court (2018/2019 season)
1 was No Further Action (2019/2020 season)
