I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 26^th February 2021. Please find below the response to your request:

I was wondering under the Freedom of Information Act I was wondering what training or qualifications do Police Medics receive? Also if possible what medical equipment do they carry?

Reply:-

Police first aid training

College of Policing map across the requirement of HSE over to the Police First Aid learning programme. (FALP)

Forces must comply with the content and standard of training and assessment set by the college.

There are 5 modules outlined in the FALP along with higher level outcomes for specialist officers.

Mod 1 basic life support

Mod 2  This is the minimum level of first aid required by all Police officers and operational support staff that have direct contact with the public  (it includes mod 1 within the training)

Mod 4 First aid at work identified for police staff who are responsible for first aid provision in the work place

Mod 5 also called D13 The reason for this is – This higher level of first aid training was originally sourced from the firearms manual.

It is more recently been re titled by the faculty of pre hospital Trauma Care

Clinical Skills for Specialist Police officers  

The faculty of Pre Hospital Care . Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh has defined the content of this module as achievable and legally appropriate for the police Service.

West Mercia Clinical governance is provided directly from the faculty .

Contextualisation of the training environment is required by the college, to reflect the officers role .

Managing an airway using suitable adjuncts

Manage breathing complications

Administer oxygen

Haemorrhage control using suitable equipment

Splinting techniques
