FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 90531
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 16th June 2021. Please find below the response to your request:
I would like to request the following information:
For each of the years 2010 and 2020, how many investigations under section 47 of the Children Act 1989 were referred to you for further action which involved these terms in the referral:
Fabricated or Induced Illness or FII
Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy or MSbP
How many of these investigations led to no further action being taken by the police?
Clarification:
Do the terms of Fabricated/Induced refer to Munchausen’s syndrome or Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy or is it just wherever the term appears?
Answer:
They are separate terms, so Fabricated Illness is one term, Induced Illness is one term, FII is one term.
Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy is one term, and MSbP is one term.
So they're all separate terms and are likely to appear by themselves in a referral or investigation.
