I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 26^th November 2021. Please find below the response to your request:

1. Any memorandum of understanding or protocol in place between HMP Long Lartin (or the relevant custody area, or HMPPS more widely) and West Mercia Police, from January 2018 to present, regarding:

- handling of crimes in prison;

- sudden deaths in prison; and

- staff corruption/wrongdoing in prison

I already have the following national documents:

- Protocol between NOMS, ACPO and CPS on 'The appropriate handling of crimes in prison', 2015

- Crime in Prison Referral Agreement between HMPPS, NPCC and CPS, 2019

2. Any policies, training or guidance regarding:

- handling of crimes in prison;

- sudden deaths in prison; and

- staff corruption/wrongdoing in prison

3. Any policies, training or guidance regarding prison liaison officers, as in force since February 2018

Reply:-

1. Any memorandum of understanding or protocol in place between HMP Long Lartin (or the relevant custody area, or HMPPS more widely) and West Mercia Police, from January 2018 to present, regarding:

No information held - the Crime in Prison Referral Agreement is the cornerstone agreement between the Police Service and HM Prison and Probation Service.

Regarding corruption this is a national agreement between the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) and HMP and is not held by West Mercia Police.

- sudden deaths in prison; and

- staff corruption/wrongdoing in prison

As per question 1 & 3, No information held.

3. Any policies, training or guidance regarding prison liaison officers, as in force since February 2018

No information held, all PLO’s have to complete / attend the national PLO course before they take up the role.
