I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 28th March 2022. Please find below the response to your request:
REQUEST 1:
What would you like to know?: In reference to student police officers who successfully completed their probationary period in 2020 and 2021, I would like to request the number of officers who were offered a basic response or advanced driving course prior to reaching the end of probation in the above defined period, and the number of officers overall who competed their probationary period in the same time frame.

What would you like to know?: In reference to student police officers who successfully completed their probationary period in 2020 and 2021, I would like to request the number of officers who were offered a basic response or advanced driving course prior to reaching the end of probation in the above defined period, and the number of officers overall who competed their probationary period in the same time frame.
Prior to our PCDA and DHEP (explained below) programmes were introduced, our student officers attending their IPLDP (Initial Police Learning Development Programme) course were only offered a STANDARD RESPONSE DRIVING course after 12 months of the programme PLUS they have been must be up to date and have no issues with their portfolio.
We currently carry out the 3 year PCDA (Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship) programme and 2 year DHEP (Degree Holder Entry Programme) Programme. This was brought in, in January 2020. Student officers are scheduled to completed their Standard Response training at the start of year 3 of their programme.
We have no PCDA or DHEP student officers who have currently completed the 3 years PCDA or 2 years DHEP programmes.
Out of the 344 student officers we currently have in force, 14 have completed their Standard Response training so far. All 14 completed this training in 2022 which coincides with PCDA Student Officers starting their 3rd year.
No Student Officers are offered ‘Advanced’ level driving.

Student Officers do not get trained in the use of Taser whilst in their probationary period.
