I would be interested in information on the points stated below –
Q1. Does your department use any form of 3D recreation in relation to floor plans or crime scenes?
Q2. If yes, what devices/software do you use?
Q3. Is the 3D recreation software you use sufficient for its purpose within your department?
Q4. Does your department use any form of CAD in relation to 2D floor plans or crime scenes?
Q5. If your department does not use any form of CAD or 3D recreational software why is this?
Q6. On average how many cases are each of these methods used per year:

Q1. Does your department use any form of 3D recreation in relation to floor plans or crime scenes?
West Mercia Police do have access to Leica 3D Laser scanners as part of our Collision Investigation Unit (CIU). These are used on occasion to produce a 3D/360 degree walkthrough of crimes scenes.
Q2. If yes, what devices/software do you use?
Leica Laser Scanner and Leica software to support them.
Q3. Is the 3D recreation software you use sufficient for its purpose within your department?
Yes
Q4. Does your department use any form of CAD in relation to 2D floor plans or crime scenes?
No.
Q5. If your department does not use any form of CAD or 3D recreational software why is this?
Scene plans if produced are usually hand drawn by the scene examiner. They are not always used in court presentations and so not always required.
Q6. On average how many cases are each of these methods used per year:
- A) CAD - 0
- B) 3D recreation software – Approx 3-5
Q7. Typically what crime types are each method used for?

- B) 3D recreation software – Murder
