I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 9th March 2023. Please find below the response to your request:
The data I request is as follows.
- The period is from 1st January 2000 to 31st December 2022,
- Where the offence has been identified as a sexual offence as defined by the Sexual Offences Act 2003 to include attempts.
- The request is irrespective of the sex of the victim or the perpetrator.
- It is for all reports where either the victim or the suspect is over the age of eighteen (18) year.
To assist with the data collection, can you please include in your response how your Police Service records if the perpetrator or victim of a sexual offence states that they identify their gender as different to that as recorded on their birth certificate (i.e. male/female)?

We are unable to search records to establish if there is an individual identifying as a different gender to their birth certificate and can only record it if the information has been given to us, there is no mandatory field for this to be recorded within a crime report. It is possible it may be recorded on an individual’s record but not necessarily on individual crime reports.
