Points for clarification and accuracy:
- Children refers to those under the age of 18 - if the child is under the age of 1 please provide age in months
- This is a request about racially aggravated hate crimes only - please ensure religiously aggravated offences are filtered out
- Please ensure data is provided in format of financial years (e.g. 2018/19) and not individual years (e.g. 2018)
Reply
Caveat: In line with national police data returns, the report is based on crime input date. This means that an offence that has occurred some months or years previously but reported recently, will be counted against the year/month in which it was reported.
There are occasions where there are multiple suspects linked to the same investigation. Different action may be taken against each suspect, or indeed multiple suspects can be charged with one offence. An investigation can only have one outcome and therefore the highest outcome is the one which shows on the investigation. For questions 1a and 3d the number of investigations where at least one person has been charged. For question 3di have provided the ages of all suspects linked to investigations where at least one person has been charged.
Some offences may not have a victim (for example where a person has witnessed an offence against a third party but the third party is never identified), some may have multiple victims. Therefore the number of victims may not match the number of offences.
It is not mandatory for a person to provide their ethnicity.
