Caveat : There is no specific offence for theft from campsites. Our local crime recording system does have a location type field however this is not routinely completed, for example of the 238 results only 55 had this field completed. I have therefore searched all relevant Theft offences with either the location type listed above or one of the mentioned keywords within the location field. It is difficult to discern from the information on our systems which sites have permeant residences and which are purely holiday sites, the total includes both. I have discounted incidents where a theft has occurred from a tent or caravan from a temporary campground, for example exhibitors at the Three Counties who stayed overnight near their stalls.
In line with national police data returns, the report is based on crime input date. This means that an offence that has occurred some months or years previously but reported recently, will be counted against the year/month in which it was reported.
The search looks at all recorded crimes within a live police records management system. Volumes may be different compared against previous or subsequent requests as offences can be reclassified and other information used to identify reports can be modified. The report only includes recorded notifiable crimes, excluding crime related incidents and crimes that have been reviewed and changed to no crime.
