I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 2^nd May 2024.  Please find below the response to your request:

Request the following information on missing people with fatal outcomes during in the last four yours. Please can you provide the below in either an Excel spreadsheet or Word document (or both if that is easier)/

1. Between 2021 and 2024 how many missing person reports were filled

1. Of those missing persons reports how many of those people were found dead (i.e. fatal outcomes).

1. Of those ‘fatal outcomes’ please can you specify how many were treated as “suspicious” versus how many were treated as “not suspicious”

** The search facilities offer no simple way of assessing whether a fatality was considered “suspicious” or not. Consequently, it has been necessary to examine each of the 73 cases individually and obtain such information from Officers’ statements. In all but one case, Officers clearly stated that, either, i) there was positive evidence to suggest suicide or natural causes etc., or ii) there was no evidence to indicate that the deceased had been a victim of crime. These deaths were therefore considered to be “not suspicious”. The remaining case contained no such conclusion and has therefore been deemed to be possibly suspicious.
