FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 352994
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 14th August 2024. Please find below the response to your request:
Please could I request the following information:
- How many XL bully attacks have been recorded in your area since 1 Feb 2024?
Please illustrate this in a table/excel sheet with the respective police force in the first column, the month, the number of recorded attacks for that area, and then the number of fatal attacks for that area.
E.g. Met police, February, 89 attacks, x no. of fatalities E.g. Met, March, x, x E.g. Met, April E.g. Met, May E.g. Met, June E.g. Met, July E.g. Met, August
So respectively could this data be from February-August?
- Could you also share how many XL bully attacks were recorded last year from Jan 23 to Dec 23?

Caveat:
Please note, it’s not mandatory for the dog breed to be included into the Incident Summary. If missing, it would not be mentioned in these results.
It should be noted also that the XL Bully dogs identified in the offences are all believed to be XL Bully breed by the person reporting the incident – hence ‘XL Bully’ being written in the Incident Summaries.
A manual review of the free text in the Incident Summery field has been carried out to determine if any of the attacks (only for the requested period 01/02/24 – 01/08/24) caused fatal injuries. This has come back as NIL. It is not mandatory for the injuries to be recorded in the incident summary, and the level of injury is not always known at the time of recording. If a person’s injuries were found to be more extensive after the incident has been recorded, including persons who later died from their injuries, this would not be retrospectively added to the incident summary and therefore would not be included in these results.
- Could you also share how many XL bully attacks were recorded last year from Jan 23 to Dec 23?
