I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 30^th December 2024.  Please find below the response to your request:

I am requesting information for response times to RTCs on smart motorways, regular motorways, and normal local roads.

As well as the response times to RTCs can you please provide statistics on how many RTCs there have been in your area which has been recorded and had police attendance.

The specific information or documents needed are West Mercia Police recorded response times particularly for the last 5 years.

The data can either be in calendar or financial years.

Since January 2020 to present day there have been :

5,934 injury collisions where an officer has attended the scene in West Mercia

2,784 were on A Roads

1,145 were on B Roads

234   were on the Motorways

1,771 were on unclassified roads

Please see the tables below for response times. West Mercia Police changed their call management systems in July 2020.  Between July 2020 and April 2022 scene attendance was not recorded on the call management system and therefore we are unable to provide scene attendance data between these dates.

Response times are not recorded on the call management system and have to be calculated.  We calculate this data in full financial years for force statistical purposes and therefore we can provide response times for the financial years 2022/23 and 2023/24 however we are unable to provide response times for January 2020 to July 2020 or April 2024 to December 2024 as this has not been calculated.

We are unable to split the data into categories such as “smart motorways”, “regular motorways” or “normal local records” as there is no field for such categorisation on our systems.  The name of the road is generally recorded or denoted by a landmark however this does not always indicate the road type and we are therefore unable to split the data by road type.
