I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 23^rd July 2024.  Please find below the response to your request:

Please provide the following information for each of the calendar years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 for the West Mercia region.

1) The number of speed cameras in operation (both static and portable)

2) The average number of days that these speed cameras were in operation.

3) The number of speeding fines issued 

4) The revenues generated from speeding fines issued.

5)The number of speed - related road traffic accidents recorded,

6) Any statistical evidence you have that there is a correlation between the number of speed cameras in operation and road traffic safety.

West Mercia Police hold some of the information you have requested.

1) The number of speed cameras in operation (both static and portable)

4) The revenues generated from speeding fines issued.

West Mercia Police do not generate an income from speeding fines, the courts receive the fixed penalty fine. There is some cost recovery from training courses.

5)The number of speed - related road traffic accidents recorded,

The reporting of incidents is subject to the officer’s opinion at the time. NB Not all incidents are reported to the police.

6) Any statistical evidence you have that there is a correlation between the number of speed cameras in operation and road traffic safety.  

West Mercia Police do not hold this information however there is information available on the internet.
