FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 357294
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 5th September 2024. Please find below the response to your request:
For each of the financial years since 2012/13, please could you break down the ages recorded for victims of all of the blackmail offences recorded by the force?
Please feel free to group ages. For instance, if there were 50 recorded blackmail offences for one year you could then provide the ages in groups such as: 5 aged 14; 5 aged 15; 10 aged 16; 20 aged 17; 10 aged 18 etc

Caveat: Under Management Of Police Information Guidance information can deleted off our systems after 6 years. We are therefore unable to state that information recorded prior to this date is accurate or complete. We have provided information for the last 6 years, from the 01/08/2018.
Crime data is not static, for example crime classifications can change during the course of an investigation through the gathering of evidence or historic crimes identified when speaking to witnesses in current investigations. The table provided is the current number of Blackmail offences recorded along with a table of the table of the ages of the victims. There can be more than one victim linked to an investigation, and on some occasions a victim may not have been identified. The number of victims therefore does not match the number of offences.
