I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 9^th April 2025. Please find below the response to your request:

1. Are all your police officers who attend domestic abuse incidents (crime scenes) trained about coercive control?
2. What training courses that police officers are mandated to attend is coercive control covered in?
3. Pets can be killed, harmed or threatened within domestic abuse and are often barriers for survivors leaving an abusive relationship. Does all of your coercive control training consider this aspect?

1.Are all your police officers who attend domestic abuse incidents (crime scenes) trained about coercive control?

This topic is a ‘golden thread’ throughout all training from Student Officer initial training to annual Public and Personal Safety Training. It is also included in mandated CPD events which are held throughout the year.

2. What training courses that police officers are mandated to attend is coercive control covered in?

We currently have 2 CPD packages that mandatory for our Officers; INVESTIGATION DOMESTIC ABUSE which is aimed at all PC’s to Insp’s based on Patrol and Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT). DOMESTIC ABUSE MATTERS FIRST RESPONDERS is aimed at Front line officers and specialist departments.

3. Pets can be killed, harmed or threatened within domestic abuse and are often barriers for survivors leaving an abusive relationship. Does all of your coercive control training consider this aspect?

No specific information held regarding pets however it is discussed and all DASH forms completed at domestic incidents have a question relating to pets.
